Our new image guide - perfect images for your sales

Good product images are a key success factor in online sales. They build trust, reduce queries, and help potential buyers realistically assess the condition of a product. In the technical B2B environment in particular, meaningful images can sometimes even replace an initial on-site inspection.

In this blog post, you will learn how to create high-quality product images using simple methods that can significantly increase your sales opportunities. At the end, you will find a helpful PDF file to download

Why good images are crucial in sales

Potential buyers want to see three things immediately:

  1. Condition
  2. Complete scope of delivery
  3. Technical specifications (e.g., model, version, specifications)

Blurry, dark, or incomplete photos create uncertainty—and uncertainty prevents inquiries. Clear, structured images, on the other hand, reduce queries and speed up decisions.

The preparation

Careful preparation saves time and ensures significantly better images.
Clean the product thoroughly, remove dust, dirt, oil residues, or similar, and ensure that all parts belonging to the offer are clearly visible. If necessary, arrange loose components that belong to the offer in a clear manner—a clean, neatly presented product immediately appears professional and more trustworthy.

Choose a neutral background, such as a concrete floor, a workbench, a pallet, or simply a plain wall. Avoid busy backgrounds, other machines, people, or information that could reveal the location of the storage facility.
If necessary, a folding rule or tape measure can be placed next to the product so that interested parties can better estimate its dimensions.

The shot

A complete and honest presentation is crucial for successful sales images. Photograph the product from all relevant angles, i.e., front, back, side views, and ideally also top and bottom. The more complex or technical the product is, the more important it is to show it from multiple angles in order to reveal all details.

In addition, you should take detailed shots of connections, controls, mechanical components, or visible signs of wear. This transparency ensures that the condition of the product is conveyed realistically and that no false expectations arise among interested parties.

When taking pictures, make sure to hold the camera steady or support it, avoid using the zoom, and instead move closer to the product. Before uploading, check that all images are in focus. But don't worry, nowadays a smartphone is usually sufficient for taking good pictures.

Light & Perspective

Good lighting is the most important factor in the quality of product images. Shoot with the light, not against it: daylight reduces image noise, while backlighting creates dark silhouettes and obscures details.

If necessary, additional light sources such as construction spotlights, mobile LED lights, or even simple flashlights can help to illuminate the product well. Be sure to avoid harsh shadows or reflections. The perspective should remain true to life, and the product should be shown undistorted and realistic. Extreme angles or crooked shots make it difficult for potential buyers to assess the product.

Type plates & other details

For some components or vehicles of any kind, clearly legible detailed images are crucial. Type plates, serial numbers, manufacturer information, model designations, and technical specifications should be clearly visible. So check that labels and plates are fully visible.

When taking close-ups, camera shake can quickly become a problem—support the camera, take several shots if necessary, and check the legibility immediately. Otherwise, illegible type plates can lead to queries or even cause potential buyers to lose interest.

Conclusion

With a clear structure, good lighting, and complete documentation, you can present your product professionally and transparently. This will increase the visibility of your offer and improve your sales opportunities in the long term. Now you're ready to start shooting!
